Transition Teacher’s Responsibilities:
To help students who are non-attenders to become school attenders.
To work with a small group of students (12 or less) in a separate classroom removed from the social and academic challenges of their appropriate grade level.
To introduce school routines to transition students so that they feel comfortable within the school environment.
To provide individual and small group instruction in math and literacy to the transition students so that they can approach or reach the academic of their appropriate grade level.
To provide interesting and challenging activities on other subject areas such as art, music, drama, social studies, science, and health to create a desire in the transition students to become school attenders,
To frequently meet with parents and guardians of transition students to encourage them to send their children to school and to reward transition students for attending school.
To support transition students as they struggle to meet the social and academic challenges of regular school life.
Demonstrate an ability to differentiate academic instruction in math and literacy.
An ability to create an interesting and challenging classroom environment using a variety of teaching tools such as but not limited to audio visual aids, information technology tools, centers, and hands on instruction.
A strong desire to meet and work with young people inside and outside of school.
A willingness to meet with parents, guardians and students as often as needed to help find solutions to the challenges of attending school on a regular basis.
A strong knowledge of positive student management techniques that encourage appropriate behavior rather than punish inappropriate behavior.
Speaking of the Ojibway or Oji-Cree language an asset.
Be skilled an knowledgeable in a variety of outdoor activities such as but not limited to hunting skills, navigation on the land and water skills, skills in various sports and cultural knowledge.
