JOB SUMMARY:

The Technical support and community engagement liaison position will work with other members of the TIPCA team to develop potential Indigenous Protected and Conserved Areas in TRTFN Territory.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assisting other TIPCA team members
  • Engaging with TRTFN citizens (including Elders)
  • Participating in engagement with other governments
  • Reviewing documentation associated with IPCA development
  • Onsite research and ground-truthing
  • Working within the Lands Department and with Lands Manager, Charmaine Thom, to develop TRTFN priorities for IPCAs
  • Assisting with workplan development
  • Assisting with inter-governmental meetings, including Northern Territory file as appropriate

The specific activities of this position will be partly determined upon requirements around health and safety in light of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Desired skill set and interests of the successful applicant would include

  • interest and/or experience in land and resource management and conservation
  • interest and/or experience in strategic level assessments and meetings
  • interest and/or experience in TRTFN community engagement and development of effective in ways to engage the community
  • interest and/or experience in Atlin community engagement and development of effective in ways to engage the community
  • interest and/or experience in engaging and collaborating with other governments on land and resource strategic and management issues
  • able to adjust to remote communication, as needed, to work with the team and undertake engagement
  • interest and/or experience being on the land to do site visits at potential IPCAs

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • A university degree with at least two years of experience in Ethnoecology, Environmental Studies/Sciences, Biology, Anthropology, or related field; prior experience working with First Nations in decolonized approaches.
  • Experience with remote field data collection, scheduling/work planning, community/youth engagement, project management, coordinating logistics, financial management, program development, Advanced Wilderness First Aid.
  • Knowledge of TRTFN territory, social structure, traditions, stories, and cultural values as asset.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  • Class 5 driver’s license
  • Criminal Record Check
  • Willingness to travel

Contract length: 8 months

Part-time hours: 20-36 per week
