Project Journey Teacher’s Responsibilities:
Will be responsible to deliver the Project Journey curriculum and support Project Journey youth programming at Eenchokay Birchstick School. It is a strength based positive youth development curriculum utilizing an experiential learning approach (students learn by doing). The program helps to develop strong leadership skills for the students taking the program.
The goal of the program is to teach the students of EBS to stay on the right path in life.
The teacher would be responsible to deliver innovative and engaging youth programming which focusses on leadership and life skill development.
Programming focus will be community-oriented service learning, outdoor experiential activities, adventure camps and treks, classroom based problem-solving activities, and a focus on indigenous art and culture.
Desired Qualifications, Experience and Skills:
Post-Secondary education or equivalent work experience in the following areas:
Indigenous learning, outdoor recreation and education, experiential learning, community development, and/or political science.
Ontario College of Teacher certification or equivalent.
Applicants with background in delivery of experiential learning will be strongly considered.
Classroom teaching experience a plus
Experience and interest in outdoor activities
Coaching and mentoring skills
Good communication skills.
Ability to implement a lesson plan and evaluate student performance.
Computer skills for attendance tracking.
The ability to work independently and as part of a school team.
Previous teaching experience an asset.
