The Ministry of Environment has an opportunity for two energetic and motivated individuals within the Compliance and Field Services Branch. One vacancy is headquartered in Beauval and the other vacancy is headquartered in Southend.
Located within the respective Compliance Area you will provide advice and leadership to the Compliance Manager and will assist in the management of Saskatchewan’s environment and natural resources, and deliver ministry programs and policies that ensure compliance and enforcement programs support the Ministry’s results-based, service-oriented, regulatory approach.
The position is responsible to identify, develop, and implement the annual compliance plan for the area as well as monitor and evaluate activities relative to the annual provincial compliance plan. With the assistance of the Compliance Manager, you will create, develop, lead, and manage public involvement processes and relationships with stakeholders, communities, and organizations to ensure protection, conservation, maintenance and stewardship of healthy ecosystems. You will facilitate public understanding of resource management processes, and reduce conflicts between human social economic needs and sustainable use of renewable resources.
Conservation Officer Supervisors supervise and provide guidance to Senior Conservation Officers and Client Service Representatives on the application of provincial policies, operational guidelines, enforcement protocols, and provincial and federal legislation to ensure consistency of application, optimum effectiveness and public acceptance. In addition, you will be responsible for the delivery and enforcement of resource, recreational and environmental programs including enforcement of all applicable acts and regulations.
As a member of the Provincial Protection and Response Team, in order to ensure public safety, you will aid in the reduction of crime in Saskatchewan by responding to 911 calls when RCMP or Municipal Police agencies are unavailable or when you could provide the fastest first response. You will take direct enforcement action during crimes in progress and will provide assistance and support to police agencies as requested.
Knowledge of applicable Federal and Provincial legislation, law enforcement, court procedures and legal documents, as well as a thorough understanding of environmental risk analysis and sustainability related to renewable resources and ecosystems within the province will be critical to the success of this position.
Typically, the competencies required for this position would be obtained through the successful completion of a Bachelor of Applied Science Conservation Enforcement degree or a diploma program in conservation and environmental law enforcement as well as progressive in-service training and extensive related experience. Ideal candidates will have demonstrated supervisory experience as well as the ability to mediate and facilitate discussion of issues with First Nations and Metis cultures.
The successful candidate will be required to pass a standard Law Enforcement Fitness Test (PARE) prior to taking the occupational mandatory training; meet the standard Use of Force qualifications relating to defensive tactics, impact weapons, oleoresin capsicum spray and practical shotgun handling; and pass the Municipal Police Firearms Course. (Employees that have successfully passed the mandatory use of force training within the previous yearly training cycle will be deemed qualified and will not require a PARE test.)
